It seems a good idea if we discuss today the conundrum of “Self Study Vs Coaching Institutes”, given the ever growing competition in the field of education. Parents pressurize if not compel their children right from the day they are born to be focused towards studies and push to acclimatize them to withstand stark competitive atmosphere in the long run. It is not surprising to see today, so many children taking coaching for various competitive exams before their age in pursuit of an “edge” on that one final day. This appears to be a good idea on the surface, however things have changed in recent years.
The time today demands for well speculated decision when it comes to competing in a large group of people. I would say, coaching has become an inseparable part of any competitive exam. “Direction is as important as the magnitude”, as any mathematical scholar would understand for “Vectors”. Coaching is an essential ingredient for success at competitive exam which provides us with focused efforts and time saving approach to cracking exams, rather than “Reinventing the wheel” as would be the case with “Self – Study”.
For instance, many engineering students aim for “GATE & IES” exams right from the beginning years to hone their sward for the final day. I proudly mention of “Compete India Zone” whereby I learnt a great deal of concepts and
methods of solving problems in my “GATE” preparation with the invaluable support of phenomenal teachers whichotherwise had been very much difficult and onerous for me to do by myself.
All in all, with proper blend of “Self-study” and “Coaching”, wherein devoting maximum time to learning things at
coaching and then practicing them at home, is the best approach in my opinion to go about excelling in the field of academics.
